The idea
Cartography Assets aims to bring together the various communities, artists and others that are interested in cartography asset sharing (including fantasy and DND. Seeing that loads of users and creators are searching for the right place to share or find assets to use in various programs without much success. Reddit forums, pages and discord servers have been created, but no place allows users to directly upload their assets in a clear and easy way without the need of links to Google Drive or Dropbox or registering/joining a specific platform. With Cartography Assets I want to create a community-driven platform to allow the community to use and share assets, symbols and more. The platform allows users to share, download and even sell assets (with external links).

Community elements
Cartography Assets its main goal is to be a community driven website. Therefore it is important that the community has an essential role in both maintaining and administrating parts of the platform.

Staff team​

The Cartography Assets website will be maintained by a set few individuals that form the staff team. Staff members are chosen from applying community members and can either be moderators or admins. Moderators are mainly there to moderate the forum aspect of the platform. They will be the ones moderating posts and topics, as well as making sure that users follow the set rules (e.g. no spamming etc). Admins will help out on the forums by creating categories (when the community has a need for this) and maintaining them. Admins will also be active on the asset sharing side of the platform, making sure users follow the rules. A few selected staff-members will serve as super-admins and have access to the website control panel. This way we ensure that the website is able to run at all times and on the long-term.​

Featured Creators​

Featured creators are verified creators of assets that are a big part of the community. Creators can receive the featured status by receiving a set amount of reviews on their assets. Creators may also be acknowledged by the staff team as a featured creator. Extra perks for featured creators have yet to be decided.​

Features

Asset library​

Assets can be shared via the assets library on the platform. Here users can share, sell and download assets they like. Assets can be shared in various file formats like .zip and .png but other formats are available too. Creators upload their assets to the platform and can add titles, descriptions, previews, tags, updates and more on the same page. They are also able to sell their assets on the platform (as a link to external purchase handling) and can provide these files to the purchaser either directly on the platform, via an external link or completely externally (e.g. via email).​

Forums​

Besides the assets library, the Cartography Assets platform also offers a complete forum. Users have the option to discuss things in topics, ask for help or do anything else you might want to do on a forum. Tips and tricks can be shared, creations are showcased and WIP Assets can be shown to the community for feedback. Users can like, share and comment on posts and can even receive trophies and achievements for being active or reaching certain milestones.​

There is the option for software developers big and small to get their own subforum on CartographyAssets for their product. Here they can post updates, help users with bugs and ask the community for feedback. This way Cartography Assets wants to close the gap between developers and users and give them a place online where they otherwise wouldn't be able to.​

Protecting users and creators
Copyright is an important aspect and I want to ensure that users and creators are comfortable releasing their content on the platform before we release the platform to the public. Users that upload assets to the platform will always remain the copyright holders and owners of these assets (assuming they have that right in the first place) and the team will try its best to keep out copy-cats or uploads without the necessary rights. Cartography Assets will never get rights to anything being uploaded and will never sell, share or promote user content with anyone. Uploaders that violate someone else’s (copy)rights will be banned from the platform, and not be allowed to return. A support system will be set up to report violations to the staff team.
